A permanent basking habitat for softshell turtles is part of the mitigation plan. Eventually this rock base will extend beyond the pier by several meters. However, the amount of rock dumped so far exceeded spec by a considerable amount since the silt just keeps giving way and swallowing more and more, just like the problems encountered when the causeway was first built in 1938.
