Mayfly

Mayfly

Every year Lake Champlain has a large mayfly hatch (actually several). Some speices are quite large, like this one which was at least 2" from tip of antenna to tip of tail. What was unusual on this day was when I came home from being afield I noticed a lot of frenetic rustling in the trees. The birds were on a feeding frenzy! The hatch that year was particularly abundant.
